Animation Society of Virginia Tech

VTAS: Virginia Tech's Premiere Anime Club

Welcome to the VTAS homepage. We have weekly meetings, showing new and old anime. Every semester we also hold a 2 day non-stop AnimeFest. You know you want in on this!

Check the weekly meetings page for the complete run-down of this semester's viewing schedule.

SPRING 2012 EVENTS

AnimeFest XLVII, 4/20 to 4/22
Friday, Hancock 100, be there. For the show schedule, please see the AnimeFest page. In addition, our bi-annual trip to Kabuki is scheduled for Thursday, April 19th. Details forthcoming.

Stop SOPA and PIPA.

No doubt many of you have already heard about these two pieces of quote-unquote "legislation". The passage of these bills would spell the end of the Internet as we know it. For more information on SOPA and PIPA, and ways you can help stop them, click the link below. Thanks for helping keep the Internet free.

Vote Night Results
The votes have been tallied. The new schedule for this semester has been decided. Check the Weekly Meetings page for the run-down of what we'll be watching every week. If you have any questions or comments, please direct them to the Librarian.

Vote Night, 1/24
It's the start of a new year/semester/attosecond! As such, this semester's vote night will be held Tuesday, January 24th at 7:00 PM in Saunders 409. What gets voted in will be what we watch for the rest of the semester during the weekly meetings, so be sure to show up and vote!

FALL 2011 EVENTS

AnimeFest XLVI, 11/04 to 11/06
It's that time of year (probably, the webmaster's kinda out of the loop). This Friday, at 7:00 PM in Hancock 100, we will gather for over 40 hours of non-stop anime goodness. The final draft of the fest schedule is up on the AnimeFest page. Also coming soon (once the FTP stops being stupid) are a printable version and a playbill containing summaries of what we're watching. Don't forget to donate to ensure Brad suffers maximally during the Troll Brad Slot!

Fanservice Fundraiser and Club History
In case you weren't aware, VTAS is currently hosting a fundraiser for a new projector. The basic premise is that the more money raised, the more fanservice-y a show Brad gets forced to watch during a late-night AnimeFest block. Given his reactions to stuff like Hidan no Aria, hilarity is bound to ensue. Details and the current show rank are on the AnimeFest page, please direct any questions to the Librarian. The history page has also been updated with a new article on the origins of the club, courtesy of one of our co-founders. Give it a read sometime!

Schedule Update
As a heads up, the schedule has been changed. Since Mayo Chiki! got a 13th episode, some reorganization was required. As a result, the last meeting has been reorganized, with the new episode being squeezed in, and the Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA being move to a slot during fest. The movie will be Origin: Spirits Of The Past. If you have any questions or comments, contact the Librarian.

Invisifest, 9/24
A rather short notice announcement, but VTAS will be hosting an anime room at Invisifest this Saturday, 9/24. The event is in McBryde and runs from noon to 10:00 PM. We'll be showing a selection of movies and shows, so stop on by!

Vote Tape, 8/30
This semester's Vote Tape Night is in Saunders 409 at 7:00 PM. At that time, we'll watch clips from 20 or so shows and pick 10 to watch at our weekly meetings during the semester. If you want a say in what goes down, show up and vote!

Gobblerfest, 8/26
VTAS will have a booth at this year's Gobblerfest, Virginia Tech's big student organization event. We're located between Moe's and Rita's. Stop by for a look at upcoming events this semester, free noms, and other shenanigans.

SPRING 2011 EVENTS

Schedule Updates!
Both the weekly meeting and AnimeFest schedules have been altered. Due to Madoka's last two episodes being delayed until 4/21, we will instead be watching two episodes of Panty and Stocking on the 19th and 3 episodes of Star Driver on the 26th. Episodes 11 and 12 of Madoka will be shown at the start of the final meeting on the 3rd of May. The AnimeFest schedule has been updated to correct a few errors (i.e. we watched Summer Wars last spring). The "NEW ANIME SLOT" and "SECRET SLOT" are still TBA.

AnimeFest XLV, 4/29 to 5/1
This semester's AnimeFest is scheduled for the weekend of April 29th. Specifically, it will run from 7:00PM on April 29th to roughly 11:00AM on May 1st. The location is Saunders 409. See the AnimeFest page for the schedule. Please keep in mind the schedule is subject to change, especially with regard to the new anime slot on Saturday.

With Regard to Japan's Crisis
Unless you've been living under a rock, you're aware of the massive earthquake and tsunami that stuck Japan. With Japan facing such a tragedy, many humanitarian efforts are now underway to provide aid. Below is a link to various relief organizations and information on this disaster. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
Resources related to the 2011 Japan Crisis.

Vote Tape, 1/25
This Tuesday, we will once again gather together to decide what to watch for the semester. It is in Saunders 409 at 7:00pm. REPEAT: Saunders 409, NOT Randolph 110! If you want any say in this semester's line-up, show up!

The listserv has moved!
The old listserv has stopped working, what with being tied to the old domain and all. We have since moved to a new listserv hosted by Virginia Tech. NOTE: We were unable to recover the email addresses from the old listserv, so if you want to continue receiving updates on new events, you have to resubscribe at the link below. Sorry for the inconvienence.

FALL 2010 EVENTS

Fall Kabuki Social, 11/11
The Kabuki Social is Thursday, November 11 at 7:00pm. The meet-up will be at 6:30 in the Hillcrest lot. The group will then carpool over. Hillcrest parking lot is located between Hillcrest Hall and Wallace Hall (see below). If someone takes pictures, send 'em to the webmaster so he can update the events page!

AnimeFest XLIV, 11/12 to 11/14
AnimeFest will be held from 7:00pm Friday, November 12 to 2:00pm Sunday, November 14. We will be back in Saunders 409 (NOT Randolph 110 or Hancock 100). The line-up is on the AnimeFest page, any questions can be directed to the librarian. Shows will be watched in blocks of 4 episodes, runtime 1:40 each. There will also be a 3:20 minute long "new anime" section on Saturday afternoon where we watch the first two episodes of shows which air this fall (October - December), as well as a 3:20 minute block Saturday night where we finish up Monster. We are also going to watch Evangelion 2.22, Bakemonogatari 15, and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. We also need some volunteers to watch over the equipment, sign up here. Who knows, maybe the webmaster won't be working 16-hour days and can actually show up.

Vote Tape, 8/31
It's indeed almost time. Time to gather together and decide on this semester's line-up. We will be meeting Tuesday at 7:00pm in Randolph 110. Our gracious librarian has compiled together quite a few samplings of interesting shows both new and old. Rest assured, this is going to be an exciting semester.

Where's the site?
As you may or may not have noticed, the site has moved. It would seem that the registration for the old domain (www.vtas.org) expired (sort of), and nobody warned the webmaster. Hence, the site has moved to a *.org.vt.edu domain. Please remember to update your bookmarks accordingly. Again, the website has moved to www.vtas.org.vt.edu, thanks for putting up with this silly annoyance. In addition, the listserv was tied to the old site, expect it to move to a Virginia Tech- based one shortly. The library page is also down since the new server doesn't support python (hence the webmaster's pet project has to be recoded). Sorry for all the issues.
